Getting the Right Look – Sample Doors and Sample Chips

Conestoga Cabinets Wood Species

Conestoga highly recommends selecting paint and stain colors (and door designs) from a sample door made to your specs. At the very least you should order some sample color chips. The alternative to making your selections from sample doors and sample chips, is to pick colors off a computer screen. This can be problematic due to colors not appearing on screen quite like they do in hand.

Ordering Sample Doors and Sample Chips

Sample doors usually require a $100 to $150 deposit. Under certain conditions, this cost is refundable if the door is returned within 60 days.  A box of sample chips, in a specific wood species (Cherry, Hard Maple, Red Oak, Painted, etc.) requires a $100 deposit (updated 1-1-24). Again, under certain conditions, this cost is refundable if the chips are returned within 60 days.

Sample doors, sent via standard shipping, takes approximately three weeks to receive. The order can be expedited so you would receive it in about 7-10 days, however, there is a 50% expediting fee and this fee is usually not refundable!  Another option would be to order a door that would fit your layout, and thus avoid the expense and/or return of the sample door.

Sample chips generally arrive in about 7-days. You can order 1 to 3 individual sample chips, and if they are in stock, you can get them within a few days. This should give you an idea about what samples are available, how long it take to receive samples, and their associated deposits.

I’d like to order some samples. I’m looking for a natural looking rift-cut or quartersawn white oak cabinet. I’d prefer a matte finish. If there are some options you could suggest and some samples you could provide, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

      Hi Erik,

If you want to see rift-cut or quartersawn oak, you would have to order a sample door, as there are no sample chips in those grades. Usually customers get a quote on their kitchen or office, and once the dollar amount is agreed upon, a sample door is ordered, without a charge.

If you want to order a sample door now, you run the risk of not being able to return it for a credit.

What type of cabinet project are you working on?

Samples of Nutmeg I received are white with brown grain but in the picture it looks like it has a golden tint, did I get the wrong sample?

      Hi Juliet,

Did you order the samples from us? What wood specie is the Nutmeg stain on? Without knowing everything, I would say you probably did get the wrong sample. Sounds like your sample chip may have had a white glaze applied?

      Pete
